We all agree that life is too rushed and hectic. We are frequently subjected to excess bodily toxicity, unnatural life-style, negative thinking (our own and others) and emotional shock. The Purification Retreat offers three-day and five-day cleansing programs for beginners. Many past participants have found this program life transforming. It is based on an ancient understanding that we possess two invisible bodies in addition to our physical body. These nonmaterial bodies have a significant influence on our feelings and thoughts.

Purification Retreat

Between the cells of our physical body there is considerable space. This space is pervaded by two invisible bodies just as radio waves pervade the “solid” walls of a room. Ancient Indian teachings call the first invisible body, the subtle body. It is the seat of our feelings. The second invisible body pervades both the physical body and the subtle body. It is called the causal body and is the origin of our thoughts.
The subtle body has seven major spinning wheels of energy (chakras) which obtain most of their energy from the five basic elements of Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Akash (Space). Elements and combination of elements play an essential role in determining how we feel. For example, when Earth is in abundance, we feel solid and grounded. Our confidence is strengthened. When Air is plentiful, we may feel buoyant and more loving.

Under conditions of stress and toxicity, the elements lose some of their purity and potency. They may then have a negative effect on our feelings. A dispersed Earth element may make us feel weak and sluggish. Polluted Air element can cause us to feel uncaring.
When blocked energy to chakras is dissolved, the result is a reduction of such negativity as stress, anxiety and addictive behavior. This leads to a more meaningful and productive life which is in harmony with the laws of nature.

Fasting is fundamental to the purification process. Except where contraindicated, participants do not eat solid food for the five-day period. They are provided with high quality herbs and husks, teas, vitamin C and special tonics. This process is intended to cleanse the internal organs (colon, liver, kidney, bladder, spleen) as well as the blood and intestines.

Sri Shyamji Bhatnagar has had over four decades of experience in helping people to purify the elements and integrate the three bodies. As a consequence, thousands of people have had the personal experience of strengthening their positive feelings and thoughts.

Sri Shyamji was born and raised in India. At age 12, he met his spiritual teacher in the Himalayas and spent several years under his guidance. The Guru initiated Shyamji into the Saivite tradition of Tantra—imparting a rare oral tradition of sacred sounds (naada yoga), breath (svara yoga), and spiritual wisdom.

The grace of the guru (guru krippa) and the spiritual practices he imparted (sadhana) are the basis for Shyamji’s extraordinary intuition and unique chanting of sounds and mantra. For millennia this tradition was passed down from generation to generation through an oral tradition which preserved its purity. He learned to play tambura from great vocalist pandit Pranath in Dehra Dun in 1949. Sri Shyamji played tambura with Pranath’s disciple Pandit Jagdish Mohan in Bareilly from 1953 to 1956. He was asked by Ravi Shankar to accompany him in mid 60’s through 80’s on the East coast of USA. It is a rare opportunity to learn the science of sound from a true master.
In 1966, while in India he co-founded ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ (goodness, truth, beauty) with Harish Johari and Pundit Rameshvar Panday in Bareilly, North India. This organization was founded with the intention of synthesizing the healing knowledge of East and West in order to aid those seeking to understand these principles in the conduct of their every day lives.
In 1967 Sri Shyamji returned from India and relocated in New York city. He worked extensively with youth who were struggling to find their spiritual identity. He became known as the holy man of Greenwich Village due to his unending compassion, effective therapy and esoteric wisdom. He taught classes at the New School for Social Research in Manhattan and presented dozens of workshops at the Esalen Institute in California.
Sri Shyamji began presenting his work internationally in major growth centers and Universities, including New York University, Bombay University, Asia Society, De Kosmos (Amsterdam) and many others. He introduced a unique method of education for young children, conch play, at the Museum of Natural History in New York City. His first open air mantra meditation concert was at the Museum of Modern Art (NYC). In 1968 he was invited by Dr. Bernard Aaronson, a psychologist at the neuro-psychiatric institute of Princeton, to experiment with the effects of sound. Around this time he commenced his international teachings in Europe.

Currently Sri Shyamji has a world wide network of students and professionals which he teaches at various Sri Center locations. He is also on the faculty of the Open Center, New York’s leading center of holistic learning.

For over four decades thousands of students and professionals have enriched their lives through Microchakra Psychology™ and InnerTuning®.

Many of our workshops, retreats and classes combine Microchakra Psychology and the yoga of sound (naada). Microchakra Psychology is a study of human energies based upon sensitive awareness of the subtle energy flow through the body and the seven energy centers (chakras) and microchakras.
The theory of Microchakra Psychology™ and practice specific sounds and mantras designed to open blocked microchakras are taught by Sri Shyamji Bhatnagar, Master of Naada Yoga in New York on Wednesdays.
